Using the Revolve Tool
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) with Onshape
🕑 This lesson will take about 6 minutes
In this lesson, you will learn how to use the revolve tool in Onshape. This tool allows us to create 3D objects by rotating a 2D profile around an axis. For example, you can revolve a circle to create a sphere. The Revolve tool is useful for creating symmetrical objects such as lampstands, candlesticks or table legs.
To begin, we will start by creating a new document in Onshape and drawing a simple 2D profile using the sketch tools. Next, we will select the revolve tool and specify the axis of rotation for our profile. Once we have specified the axis, we can preview the resulting 3D object and make any necessary adjustments to the angle of rotation or the position of the axis.
Take a look at the two example shapes created below using the Revolve tool.
